Press Release by TÜMTİS Leadership with the date of 27.09.2017
Aras Kargo’s objection to the official recognition of TÜMTİS was rejected. With the verdict of Istanbul 16th Labour Court, it was confirmed that TÜMTİS obtained the necessary numbers to sign a collective bargaining agreement.
We started an organising campaign at Aras Kargo in 2014 and concluded it after a year of intensive organising work. After recruiting the majority of workers, we received official recognition from the Ministry of Labour on 26 November 2015. The employer took advantage of legal gaps and filed a lawsuit of objection, pausing the collective bargaining process.
The lawsuit was supposed to end in 2 months. However, the already cumbersome legal process went on for 22 months because of the failed coup attempt on 15th July and the establishing of Regional Courts of Justice after the coup attempt.
The employer filed a lawsuit in order to draw out the collective agreement process. We call on Aras Kargo to immediately start a dialogue with our union TÜMTİS.
Aras Kargo is one of the biggest delivery companies in Turkey with 844 branches, 28 transfer centers, 1500 workplaces and more than 10.000 workers. This success will help change transport workers’ fate in Turkey. Our union’s victory despite all the difficulties will contribute to the struggle to improve the conditions of delivery workers in Turkey.
Our union’s victory at Aras Kargo after victories at DHL Supply Chain and UPS is a success for transport workers and the working class in Turkey.
We believe we will conclude this struggle with a collective bargaining agreement. We will continue our fight with determination in order to sign a successful collective agreement. We call on delivery, logistics and transport workers to unite under TÜMTİS.
