VISIT TO ITUC – INTERNATIONAL TRADE UNION CONFEDERATION, ETUC – EUROPEAN TRADE UNION CONFEDERATION AND EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMITTEE

During the Brussels visit, President of our union had a meeting with Jeff Bridgford, special
consultant of European Trade Union Confederation. After the meeting in which the last
updates about UPS resistance were mentioned, John Monks, General Secretary of ETUC
sent a letter to UPS European management in which he demanded that the solution should be
solved immediately and as a supporting message for TÜMTİS.

After the meeting with Frank Willems, from Human and Trade Union Rights Unit of ITUC,
an interview with Kenan Öztürk, President of our union, was made in order to publish in
ITUC Bulletin. ITUC will send a letter to UPS Atlanta management in order to support

Georges Dassis, President of the Group “Employees” of European Economic and Social
Committee took detailed information about the events in Turkey in the meeting with Kenan
Öztürk. Dassis, who follows closely the union events in Turkey for the last thirty years, said
that he will bring fired UPS workers to the attention of “Employees” group meeting.

Lastly, Stephen Hughes, member of the European Parliament, who was invited to the
reception of ETF, paid attention to our struggle and said that in European Union membership
process, the union right violations in Turkey are unacceptable. Hughes also said that he will
bring the process in UPS to the agenda of European Parliament and will give the detailed
information about the issue to President of Union Committee of European Parliament.
